Dark City: A True Crime Walking Tour of Asbury Park

October 25, 2025 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
$20

The Dark City: True Crime Walking Tour peels back the layers of Asbury Park’s glittering seaside image to reveal its untold underbelly with stories of murder, mystery, and mischief that shaped the city’s past.

“It offers a history of the city that is not frequently shared, the darker side of the city,” tour guide Lesley Schierenbeck said. “This storytelling walk is both unforgettable and impactful.”

Events included in the tour are The Baby Parade Tragedy, when a beloved local tradition took a shocking turn in 1910 and left the city reeling. The Dead Beach tour will take people to the Sunset Avenue beach, just north of Convention Hall. Find out why this is one of the most important and historic sites (and maybe one of the most haunted) in American maritime history.

Interesting facts about the famous Madame Marie’s Boardwalk Fortune-Telling Stand and Mrs. Jay’s Tavern (now the Stone Pony) are on the tour. Along with the story of Indian Bill’s Revenge, a brutal story that roots Asbury Park’s earliest true crime lore in betrayal and blood.

The Asbury Park Historical Society is partnering with History Chick Tours for the special one-night-only True Crime Walking Tour.
