For Black History Month, the APHS teams with the Asbury Park African-American Music Project (AP-AMP) for “An Afternoon of Springwood Ave. Songs & Stories” at the Crane House on Sunday, February 26, starring West Side legend Al Holmes! The Harlem-raised singer/ songwriter/ guitarist will be sharing some of his favorite songs, as well as his thoughts on his adopted city of Asbury Park, his mentors and musical collaborators, and his special relationship with the Turf Club, the landmark nightspot that he gigged at through the decades…and to which he returned when AP-AMP brought live music and positive vibes back to that Springwood Avenue site. AP-AMP will also screen short videos on the history of the Turf Club, the Springwood scene, and the people who made music history there. Doors open at 2:30 pm for the 3 pm program, and seating is limited…so make advance reservations ($25) at EventBrite, or pay at the door ($30, cash or card)…and catch Mr. Al Holmes in his first foray to our historic turf!
