SUMMARY:Seasons Readings 2025
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”2589″ img_size=”full” css=””][vc_column_text css=””]For a couple of decades beginning in 2001\, Christmas at Asbury Park’s Stephen Crane House (508 4th Avenue) has centered around our “Season’s Readings” program. That tradition ended along with the arrival of the pandemic. \nSo\, this year we would like to present the 20th edition of “Season’s Readings”: a compendium of mostly light-hearted stories\, poems\, songs\, etc. related to the Christmas Season. Barring a snowstorm or pesky nor’easter\, we’ve scheduled our literary celebration for Sunday\, December 21\, the 1st day of winter\, at 2 PM. \nFor those who wish to remain after the literary portion of the afternoon\, a screening of our favorite seasonal film: “Jim Henson’s Emmett Otter’s Jug-band Christmas” will follow. \nCoffee\, soft drinks\, cookies and other surprises will be served. \nAPHS Members may attend gratis. Donations in any amount are welcome.[/vc_column_text][vc_btn title=”View Flyer” style=”custom” custom_background=”#0877A6″ custom_text=”#FFFFFF” shape=”square” align=”center” css=”” link=”url:%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2025%2F12%2FAPHS-Coaster-Ad-for-Frank-D-12-8-2025.pdf|target:_blank”][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Annual Membership Meeting
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”2616″ img_size=”full” css=””][vc_column_text css=””]Please join the Asbury Park Historical Society for our Annual Membership Meeting Thursday\, January 22\, at 6:30 p.m. at the Asbury Park Public Library\, located at First and Grand Avenues. \nThe Historical Society is pleased to host Jason Adolf\, PH. D. Endowed Professor of Marine Science at Monmouth University to talk about the History and Natural Life of Asbury Park’s Coastal Lakes and to share simple ways that we can help protect them. \nDr. Adolf’s research focuses on marine ecology and the challenges facing our coastal waters. Before the arrival of European settlers\, the indigenous Lanape traversed the lakes in our area\, whose tributaries at one time opened to the ocean and an abundance of sea life. Dr. Adolf’s presentation will explore the environmental conditions and mechanisms that drive changes\, and how these shifts impact the functioning of marine and aquatic ecosystems. \nLight refreshments will be provided. All are invited to attend.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Calling All Sweethearts to The Crane House
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”2643″ img_size=”full” css=””][vc_column_text css=””]Calling All Sweethearts – For a Movie Showing\, Monday\, February 16 at 3 pm\, at the Stephen Crane House\, 508 Fourth Avenue\, Asbury Park. \nAsbury Park Historical Society’s cherished Frank Dalessandro\, will be screening an old-fashioned\, light-hearted musical film based (loosely) on a Victor Herbert operetta and\npromises to be a delightful conclusion to this year’s Valentine’s Day weekend. \nThe 1938 MGM film “Sweethearts\,” starring Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy\, holds the distinction of being MGM’s first feature-length movie produced in three-strip Technicolor. The film dazzles with its vibrant costumes\, a multitude of extras\, and magnificent orchestral scores. \n“Sweethearts” debuted just a year before the beloved “Wizard of Oz.” Notably\, Frank Morgan\, who played the wizard\, is third billed after the two leads. The film also features everyone’s favorite scarecrow\, Ray Bolger\, performing lively dance moves dressed as a Dutchman. Additionally\, the renowned writer Dorothy Parker\, originally from Long Branch\, was brought in to enhance the dialogue. \nPlease join the Asbury Park Historical Society for a lovely afternoon of music and camaraderie with light refreshments\, coffee\, tea\, cake and cookies. \nAll Asbury Park Historical Society members are invited to attend gratis. All others are encouraged to make a small donation if possible\, for the Historical Society.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
